Turkish-Canadian Society (TCS) Turkish Choir Ensemble Vancouver 2024 Concert will be held at the Roy Barnett Recital Hall at the University of British Columbia (UBC) on May 12th, 2024. The Choir was founded by the Turkish-Canadian Society (TCS) in 2003. As a registered nonprofit charitable organization in BC, TCS has been contributing to the vibrant multicultural character of BC by focusing on Turkish art and cultural projects for over 60 years. Its mandate is to help build a connected, inclusive, and peaceful society where people share values and care for each other. The Society accomplishes this by increasing the public knowledge of contemporary and traditional Turkish arts and culture while creating a productive environment for the enrichment and educational benefit of all Canadians, and by collaborating with other Canadian organizations and charities that share the same foresight. The Choir is a volunteer effort of the Turkish community with its singers and musicians playing various instruments as an ensemble under the TCS. The Choir’s repertoire includes various genres of Turkish music such as Turkish folk music, Turkish classical music, Turkish pop music, and Turkish Western Classical music. Throughout the years, the Choir performed at many cultural festivals (e.g., Richmond Kaleidoscope Festival, New Westminster Royal City Festival, Burnaby Eurofest, Seattle Turkfest). In addition, it has been staging an annual concert every year at different venues such as the Scottish Cultural Centre, Performance Works, and Centennial Theatre. Also, the choir took the stage for special concerts at Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, and Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture. At present, the Choir consists of 30+ choristers and 10+ musicians under the conductorship of Sevgi Dogan. The Choir is proud to be performing at the prestigious Roy Barnett Hall, at UBC. The event will start with a one-hour cocktail reception in the lobby. Following the reception, the concert will take place in two parts with a 20-minute intermission. The program will consist of mostly Turkish folk and Turkish classical music, touched up with other music genres from Anatolia. As a well-attended and sought-after community music event, the TCS Choir Ensemble Vancouver expects a sold-out concert in 2024 just like its 2023 concert.
