Welcome to the Second edition of Vancouver
ATATÜRK RUN
Whether you are a professional runner or a casual jogger, EVERYONE is welcome to join us in this meaningful sports event of 5k WALK/RUN!
Be a part of this remarkable event, where our community comes together to celebrate our shared love for Turkish heritage and the accomplishments of the past century. The event honors May 19, 1919, a day of immense significance to Türkiye’s history that marked the inception of the Turkish Independence Movement against colonial forces.
This day has been celebrated as The Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day since 1981, The Atatürk Year in the World as honored by the United Nations and UNESCO.
On Sunday, May 19th, we will be gathering in the morning at Stanley Park Second Beach Picnic Shelter just above Ceperley Playground, to walk/ run an approximately 5 K route. We will be taking off for the run/walk at 9 AM along an easy loop route that will wind around Stanley Park/Beach Avenue.
After the walk/run, we’ll be gathering at the starting point at Stanley Park Second Beach Picnic Shelter to have a pot-luck style picnic of our community to share the feeling of May 19th, and will have a group photo taken all together with all attendees to commemorate May 19th that will mark the celebration of the 101st year of the Turkish Republic.
In a vibrant celebration of history, community, and the enduring spirit of athleticism, the Turkish-Canadian Society of Vancouver (TCS) made history in Vancouver, BC, on May 19, 2023, by hosting the first- ever ATATÜRK RUN outside of Türkiye.
For the first time, the streets of Vancouver echoed with the footsteps of a diverse group of participants who came together to honor the visionary founder of the modern Turkish Republic and his fight against colonialism.
ATATÜRK RUN welcomed not only the Turkish community but also participants from all walks of life, embodying the inclusive and unifying spirit of Atatürk’s vision.
As the first run successfully unfolded in Vancouver in 2023, TCS aspires to establish this event as an annual tradition in the city.
ATATÜRK RUN goes beyond being a mere athletic event—it is a testament to the enduring legacy of a leader who envisioned a future of peace, unity, and democracy for the whole world. By organizing the run in Vancouver and aiming to replicate it in other cities of the world, the Turkish-Canadian Society seeks to share Atatürk’s timeless message with a broader audience.
The inaugural ATATÜRK RUN in Vancouver not only made history but also set the stage for an annual tradition that promises to unite communities, celebrate shared values, and inspire future generations. As the baton is passed from one city to another, the Atatürk Run aims to be a symbol of unity and a reminder that the ideals of Atatürk are not confined by borders but resonate across continents.
